Cyclone Wrestling Club Seeks Iowa State Journalism Intern
The Cyclone Wrestling Club, a non-profit organization, is seeking a volunteer Journalism Intern for the remaining of the 2009-2010 wrestling season. Responsibilities will include creation of promotional written advertisements and written and video editorials of Cyclone Wrestling Club and Iowa State Wrestling events. The ideal candidate will have strong editorial design and layout experience for publishing a monthly newsletter. Ultimately, the position will require interviewing, writing, reporting, fact checking and editing skills. Nate Gallick Wins Title at New York Athletic Club International Open
Nate Gallick, Iowa State Volunteer Assistant Coach and current CWC athlete, continued his winning ways as he defeated Drew Headlee on Sunday night to win the 60-kg freestyle title at the New York Athletic Club International Open. Nate used two 5 point moves to defeat Headlee of the New York Athletic Club by a 5-0, 5-0 score. Each time, Nate shot a takedown and finished the move by lifting Headlee and placing him on the mat. Nate was second on the US National Freestyle Team in 2007 and finished third at the 2008 Olympic Trials. Gallick was injured early in 2009, and sat out most of the international season. Nate began to train again this past summer, and he won the 60-kg title at the recent Sunkist International Open. “I’m really motivated this year,” stated Gallick in a recent interview with www.themat.com. “Wrestling in the 2012 Olympics is definitely my top priority now!” The Cyclone Wrestling Club would like to congratulate Nate on his recent accomplishments!
Trent and Travis Paulson Win at Chicago Cup
Trent and Travis Paulson each won their respective matches today as Team USA faced a team from Russia in international freestyle competition at the Chicago Cup held at Wright College in Chicago, Illinois. Trent defeated Arsen Mairov by the score of 8-1, 8-4 at 66-kg. Trent dominated his Russian opponent by completing several throws and solid double leg takedowns. Travis beat Rashid Kurbanov, 1-0, 1-0 in a tight match at 74-kg. Team USA lost the meet to Russia 4 matches to 3. Trent and Travis Paulson and Tervel Dlagnev (120-kg) were the three victorious wrestlers for the United States. Trent Paulson was named the meet's Outstanding Wrestler. The Chicago Cup was the first of three USA vs. Russia duals, with the second scheduled for Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa on Wednesday night and New York City on Friday.
Travis Paulson Claims Title at Hargobind International
Travis Paulson captured the 84-kg men's freestyle gold medal at the Hargobind International in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada on November 7th, 2009. There were also challenge matches between the men's freestyle winners for additional bonus money. Paulson defeated Ben Askren in the $2,000 match between the 74-kg champ and the 84-kg champ. MORE»
